Middlemarch was the destination for thousands of visitors arriving on the Taieri Gorge Train and coming to cycle the Otago Central Rail Trail. To service the needs of visitors, Middlemarch has developed a range of facilities and services. These include a great range of accommodation facilities, cafés and restaurants, bus services, cycle hire outlets, tourist operator businesses and booking services, shops and extended opening hours of the Museum.
With the unexpected mothballing of the Taieri Gorge train, some services have been disrupted, but Middlemarch still caters for rail trail riders and other visitors.
