Speed Shear
Biennial event in February
The Strath Taieri Young Farmers Speed Shear is a biennial event held in February, that showcases the shearing skills of local farmers and shearers in a fun and competitive environment. Held in Middlemarch, this event draws a large crowd who come to enjoy the impressive displays of speed and precision.

Participants compete in various categories, including Open, Senior, Intermediate, Ex-Shearers, and Farmers/Novice, with the fastest shearers taking home the top prizes. Bark Up
Annual event in November

The Strath Taieri Young Farmers Bark Up is a lively and entertaining event where participants showcase their dogs’ barking abilities. This fun competition is a highlight in the Middlemarch community held annually in November, drawing participants and spectators alike.

The event typically features various categories and it’s a great opportunity for local shepherds to demonstrate their pets’ and working dogs’ skills and for the community to come together and enjoy a day of friendly competition.
